Reading groups help build a sense of community

I really enjoyed our reading group today. We talked about many things that are affecting us, and I actually feel a sense of community with the people in my group. Community is important to us as teachers....as sometimes that can be our only sanity. Although I didn't like the cut and paste activity with narrative writing, I do think it would be helpful with other types. Great job today Chris on your lesson! I really think that I will adapt that and use it in my room.

  1. Thanks, Brea! I feel a great community with our group as well. Community is important among teachers. Isn't it amazing how quickly all of us have become a cohesive group?

  2. One program that is an off-shoot of the AWP SI is the Reading/Writing group meeting AWP has each month throughout the school year.

We meet, eat, and share reading and writing. It's a great experience and a way to keep those AWP connections strong.

  3. We do have such a great group of people in this session, and we all have such a good rapport. I'm already starting to miss everyone (because time is flying by so quickly). These last two weeks are going to go by too fast.

@Ms. Hagerty, please tell us more about the Reading and Writing group. I'm interested in learning more!
